METALLIC PAINT IN LANDSCAPE COMPOSITION
Does the flash and jump of light invade your senses when you are looking at a beautiful scene? Add this glitter component when attempting to trace the patterns of light in the ever sparkling moments of nature. Get the most contrast from any sunlit encounter of your day. Night scenes develop into magic abstractions with a little help from metallic effects. This mixed media technique is fun and fast and simple. Try using the techniques of the Byzantine painters or the Celtic illustrators to make a unique statement in composition.
Day one, a.m. - A black and white photo is used to demonstrate the high, medium and low areas of light contrast. In either watercolour or acrylic media the students with the help of the instructor reproduce this scene.
Day one, p.m. - The use of metallic inks and or paints is introduced by the instructor. The painting produced in the morning is analyzed for cool or warm effects and the use of silver, gold and bronze used to add to these areas using shapes and patterns to enliven blank areas as well as outlining of shapes to enhance visual contrast. Personal interpretation is encouraged as well as discussion and evaluation of impact upon various compositions. A demonstration of the technique using a night photo is shown by the instructor.
Day two, a.m. - A high contrast landscape photo is used to demonstrate high, medium and low areas of light contrast. In either watercolour or acrylic media the students with the help of the instructor reproduce this scene.
